The response to the inaugural JHP Gourmet Guide™ and its innovative plating rating in 2016 was overwhelming positive from the industry and public. The ground-breaking guide and its unique plating rating system has been applauded for its credibility, impartiality and authenticity. This neutral, trusted evaluation system that equates to global standards, and the absence of restaurant advertisements highlights the programme’s objectivity. The new-look guide is more stylish, compact and travel-friendl. Signature recipes from the chefs make it more than a restaurant guide – it is a keepsake overflowing with visual feasts and inspiration for food-lovers. Swiss International Air Lines will be presenting the inaugural SWISS Culinary Innovation Award to one of the 21 plated chefs in the JHP Gourmet Guide™ 2018.

This innovative restaurant guide and its unique plating rating system has been applauded for its credibility, impartiality and authenticity. The plating rating is a neutral, trusted evaluation method that equates with global standards. The absence of restaurant advertisements underscores the programme’s objectivity.
THE PLATING RATING
In the 2016/17 guide restaurants were awarded with either one or two plates. 2018 sees the first of three plates awarded. As consistency is such an integral part of success, only restaurants and their chefs who were plated in the last guide have been considered for three plates in the 2018 guide. The plates are awarded as follows:
One plate – excellent cuisine
Two plates – exceptional dining that demands a detour
Three plates – world-class destination dining worthy of a flight

Curator and author Jenny Handley owns a brand performance business and is a respected global restaurant reviewer and writer. Updating her formal food qualifications regularly while travelling on her taste buds all over the world, Jenny combines her passion for food, words and brand in this guide.
The 2018 guide will be launched in October 2017 and shall retail at a cost of R299 in Woolworths and leading booksellers, some of the featured restaurants, direct from JHP plus online from end-October 2017.
